Before you bleach, read this!

#Bleachbabes, we know your hair is your proudest achievement. So it should, considering how much effort and time you put into maintaining those blonde tones. However, you need to be on your A-game, preventing the potential long-term damage these chemicals could cause your locks. That’s where we come in. The BondiBoost Team are here to lay down the law when it comes to bleached hair and the preventative steps you need to take to keep those blonde strands strong, supple and healthy.

1. Treat Daily
When hair is bleached, the shaft is stripped of all its pigment (the natural colouring tissue of the hair follicle). However, all of your hair’s other natural oils, moisture and nutrients are also removed at the same time. This leaves hair extremely dry, porous and susceptible to breakage.

Applying a daily, leave-in hair serum will aid in returning moisture, nutrients and oil into the hair. It also encourages the repairing of hair cuticles and assists in a noticeably smoother shaft.

2. Invest in decent Shampoo and Conditioner that is paraben-free
Let’s be honest; having bleach-blonde hair is not a cheap hobby. If you’re going to spend big $$$ at the salon perfecting those gorgeous locks, it would be recommended to invest a little more in higher-quality shampoo and conditioner. Think of it as a type of ‘insurance’ to keep those locks looking salon-fresh.

Steer clear of shampoo and conditioners that contain parabens in their ingredient lists. Parabens are commonly used in hair care products as they are a cheap and effective (temporarily) ingredient that removes grime and dead skin cells from the scalp.

HOWEVER, to do this, parabens actually strip hair follicles dry of all other important nutrients that are vital for hair health and strength. Because bleached hair is already on the back-foot in terms of natural moisture + strength, adding parabens on top is a toxic equation leading straight to breakage!

Alternatively, look for products that contain highly-nourishing ingredients such as Aloe Vera. Aloe Vera truly is a wonder ingredient, boasting a treasure chest full of hair-loving properties.

Containing proteolytic enzymes, aloe vera repairs dead skin cells on the scalp. It promotes hair growth, prevents itchy scalps, reduces dandruff and conditions your hair. Basically, a #lifesaver for bleached hair!

3. Don’t brush when wet
Hair is in its most vulnerable state when it is wet. Strands are weighed down by the water, resulting in a total loss of manageability and elasticity. As a result, if tugged or pulled, the chances of bleached hair snapping off are incredibly likely. To avoid this #trainwreck of a situation, always brush hair when it is completely dry. It’s a simple tip but trust us; it’s worth its weight in gold.
